About Alexander Whyte

Alexander Whyte was a prominent Scottish theologian, minister, and Principal of New College, Edinburgh. He held the esteemed position of Moderator of the General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland in 1898. Whyte’s impressive career began with his studies in divinity at the University of Aberdeen and later at New College, Edinburgh, where he graduated in 1866. He then entered the ministry of the Free Church of Scotland, serving as colleague in Free St. John’s, Glasgow before eventually moving to Edinburgh as colleague and successor to Rev. Dr. Robert Candlish at Free St. George’s. In 1909, Whyte continued his legacy by succeeding Dr. Marcus Dods as Principal and Professor of New Testament Literature at New College, Edinburgh.
