Who is C.H.V. Sutherland
Humphrey Sutherland, born on May 5, 1908 in Merton Park, Surrey, was an English numismatist. He was the younger brother of the renowned painter Graham Sutherland and received his education at Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford. Sutherland began his career as an assistant keeper in the coin room at the Ashmolean Museum in 1932 and later also lectured in numismatics at the University of Oxford from 1939. He was appointed keeper of the coin room in 1957 and retired in 1975. His contributions to numismatics were honored with a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1970. Humphrey Sutherland passed away on May 14, 1986.
