Biography David Alston

David Alston, born in 1952, is a well-respected historian and independent researcher with a focus on the history of Scotland. In addition to his work as an author, Alston has also been involved in public service as a Highland Councillor and served as the curator/manager of Cromarty Courthouse Museum from 1991 to 2003. Alston’s expertise in the history of the Highlands and Slavery is evident through his published articles, such as ‘Very Rapid and Splendid Fortunes: Highland Scots in Berbice (Guyana) in the early nineteenth century’ in Transactions of the Gaelic Society of Inverness (2007) and his contribution to the T.M. Devine edited collection Recovering Scotland’s Slavery Past (EUP, 2015).
