Biography Heberto Padilla

Heberto Padilla was a prominent Cuban poet known for his involvement in the “Padilla affair.” Born in Puerta de Golpe, Pinar del Río, Cuba, he made his literary debut with the publication of Las rosas audaces (The Audacious Roses) in 1949. Throughout his career, Padilla was recognized as a Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and his works were published by Farrar Straus & Giroux, including his poetry, a novel titled En mi jardín pastan los héroes (Heroes Are Grazing in My Garden), and a memoir called La mala memoria (Self-Portrait of the Other). He later served as the Elena Amos Distinguished Scholar in Latin American Studies at Columbus State University, Columbus GA, during 1999-2000.
