Herman Bang, a Danish critic, writer, and journalist, published his first book “Haabløse Slægter” in 1880. Born in Asserballe, Als in the Duchy of Schleswig, on April 20, 1857, he was the son of parish priest Frederik Ludvig Bang (1816-1875) and Thora Elisabeth Salomine Blach (1829-1871).
