About Irene Luxbacher

Irene’s journey in the art world began after earning her Art History degree from Queen’s University. She furthered her passion for art by studying Fine Art, specifically drawing and painting, at Emily Carr College of Art and Design. With a strong background in art education, Irene has been leading visual arts workshops for over 17 years in Toronto’s public schools and at The Avenue Road Arts School. Her work in the literary world has garnered critical acclaim and positive reviews, with the Jumbo Books and the Starting Art Series being particularly well-received by librarians, teachers, and parents. Irene’s talent as an illustrator was recognized when she was named a finalist for a Governor General’s Award in 2009 for her work in The Imaginary Garden. Currently based in Toronto, Canada, Irene is hard at work on new paintings, illustrations, and picture books.
