About James Herriot
James Herriot, whose real name is James Alfred Wight, OBE, FRCVS but also known as Alf Wight, was an English veterinary surgeon and writer. He is most famous for his semi-autobiographical stories, which are often referred to collectively as All Creatures Great and Small. After qualifying as a veterinary surgeon in 1939, Wight worked at a rural practice in Thirsk, Yorkshire for the rest of his life. Inspired by his experiences as a vet, he began writing in 1966 and published his first book, If Only They Could Talk, in 1969. The subsequent release of the book All Creatures Great and Small was a huge success, leading to numerous sequels, movies, and a television adaptation.
