Biography Jean-Baptiste de Boyer d’Argens

Jean-Baptiste de Boyer, Marquis d’Argens, was a French philosopher and writer born in Aix-en-Provence. He was known for his opposition to the Catholic Church, intolerance, and religious oppression, which led him to flee France. His books were frequently denounced by the Inquisition. Despite his adventurous youth and being disinherited by his father, he found success in Amsterdam, where he wrote several famous series of letters and other works.
