Biography Jeff Carroll

Jeff Carroll is a proud Texan with deep roots in the state, tracing his ancestry back to the 1820s. He grew up in Houston and Weimar, and after serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, he pursued his education, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry from Stephen F. Austin and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Education from the University of Michigan. His 25-year career with the U.S. Forest Service saw him rise from the first “Interpretive Forester” in the Southeastern Region to the International Coordinator of Education. Carroll is also a well-known figure in Texas, with his “Legendary Texas” column running in 21 newspapers and his radio program reaching listeners on 62 stations. In addition to his writing, Carroll has taught Texas history at Texas A&M University and Blinn College, where he received the Teaching Excellence Award and was elected by students to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. He is also the author of six books and a life member of the Texas State Historical Association.
