Biography Jeremy Howick

Jeremy Howick, a Canadian-born clinical epidemiologist and philosopher of science, completed his PhD at the London School of Economics under the supervision of Professors Nancy Cartwright and John Worrall. He currently holds a senior researcher position at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences at the University of Oxford, where he also serves as the director of the Oxford Empathy Programme. Howick is renowned for his research on evidence-based medicine and the philosophy of medicine, with a focus on the use of placebos in clinical practice. He has authored over 75 peer-reviewed papers and two books, The Philosophy of Evidence-Based Medicine in 2011 and Doctor You in 2017. In 2016, he and Paul Aveyard were awarded the Dawkins & Strutt grant from the British Medical Association to study pain treatment, and he regularly publishes in Philosophy of Medicine and medical journals.
