Who is Michael Herr

Michael Herr, born in 1940 in Lexington, Kentucky, was a renowned novelist and war correspondent best known for his reporting from Vietnam for Esquire in the 1960s. His experiences during the height of the war were later chronicled in his memoir, Dispatches. In addition to his acclaimed memoir, Herr was the author of three other books and coauthor of the screenplays for the iconic war films, Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket. He also contributed to the narration of Apocalypse Now and shared an adapted screenplay Oscar nomination for Full Metal Jacket. Herr passed away in 2016 at the age of 76.
