Biography Mouloud Feraoun
Feraoun, an Algerian writer and martyr of the Algerian revolution, was born in Tizi Hibel, Kabylie. He attended the teacher training colleges Bouzaréah (Algiers) and went on to teach for several years before becoming an inspector of social centers. Feraoun began writing in 1939 and his first novel, The Son of the Poor, was praised by critics and won the Grand Prix of the city of Algiers. Some of his French-language books have been translated into several languages, including English and German. Tragically, he was assassinated by the French OAS on 15 March 1962.
