Biography Shane L. Koyczan

Shane L. Koyczan is a renowned Canadian poet and writer, known for his powerful spoken word performances. Born in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Koyczan spent his formative years in Penticton, British Columbia. In 2000, he made history by becoming the first Canadian to win the Individual Championship title at the US National Poetry Slam. Alongside Mighty Mike McGee and C.R. Avery, Koyczan co-founded the spoken word and “talk rock” trio, Tons of Fun University (T.O.F.U.). His impactful piece “We Are More” was featured in a variation during the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
