Troy D. Smith, born in 1968 in the Upper Cumberland region of Tennessee, has lived a diverse and varied life. From waxing floors to teaching high school and college, his experiences have greatly influenced his writing. Smith has found success in the western genre, with his first published short story appearing in Louis L’Amour Western Magazine in 1995. In 2001, he received the Spur Award for his novel Bound for the Promise-Land, and has been a finalist on two other occasions. Currently, Smith is teaching American history at Tennessee Tech and serving as the president of Western Fictioneers, the first national writing organization dedicated solely to fiction about the Old West.
