Julia was born and raised in Huntington, West Virginia. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Marshall University and her doctoral degree in English Literature from Ohio State University. Her accomplished career includes teaching positions at Princeton, Ohio State University, and the University of Notre Dame. She has also been a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University.
