About Nguyễn Du

Nguyễn Du (1766–1820), also known as Tố Như (素如), with the pen name Thanh Hiên (清軒) and the alias Hồng Sơn lạp hộ (鴻山獵戶) and Nam Hải điếu đồ (南海釣屠), was a prominent poet and cultural figure during the late Lê dynasty and early Nguyễn dynasty in Vietnam. He is revered by the Vietnamese people as the “Great National Poet”. His masterpiece, the epic poem “Truyện Kiều”, is considered a literary masterpiece and one of the most notable achievements in the classical literature of Vietnam. Please note: do not confuse him with Nguyễn Dữ from the 16th century.
